Episode 023: Creating a DIY Tutorial Song

We set ourselves the goal of coming up with a DIY tutorial song. We’d never heard one, we weren’t sure what they sounded like, so we figured we’d try it out ourselves. Come back next Monday for the final song!

You can listen to or download the episode below or over at archive.org. Also, please subscribe to us on iTunes and if you have a minute, give us a rating!

While we’re no longer making podcasts, we do continue to work on things. Sometimes we record those things, and sometimes we don’t. We recorded this episode back in March, and it’s taken us this long to get everything squared away to put online. This is the reason we’re no longer doing podcasts.

We do want to continue to make stuff though, and when we can, we’d like to put them online. So for now, when we do audio casts, we’re just going to release them under the ‘How Do I’ label, as we’ve already done everything to get that to iTunes, and other places.

One huge issue in this song was recording. For some reason both Jake and I decided not to use headphones when we recorded ourselves. So you can hear echo on both ends of the recording. Trying to line everything up, and silence everything was a crazy process that took months (and there’s still a ton of echo).

In addition to that, most of our talk was silent thinking, keyboard strokes, wild tangents, and other useless things that you don’t want to listen to for an hour. So from the initial fifty-five minute recording, I managed to cut it down to half of it’s original length. The majority of which was silence.

I hope you enjoy, next week we’ll put up the finalized song.
